World Haemophilia Day is observed on 17 April

Every April 17 World Haemophilia Day is recognized worldwide to increase awareness of hemophilia and other inherited bleeding disorders.

The theme of WHD 2018 is 'Sharing Knowledge Makes Us Stronger'.

World Haemophilia Day was started in 1989 by the World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) which chose to bring the community together on April 17 in honor of WFH founder Frank Schnabel’s birthday.

Indian Swimmer Double Crosses Bangla Channel Sets World Record

Pune-based 17-year-old swimmer Sampanna Ramesh Shelar set a world record to double cross the Bangla Channel. 

Shelar is the first person to swim to and fro from Saint Martin's Island Jetty to Teknaf in Bangladesh also known as the Bangla Channel.

He has completed the journey of 32.2 kilometers in 9 hours and 10 minutes
.

Kotak Mahindra Bank Pips SBI To Become Indias 2nd Most Valuable Bank

Shares of private lender Kotak Mahindra Bank Limited beat India’s largest lender State Bank of India (SBI) for the first time to become the second most valued bank in the country. Data from BSE showed that Kotak Mahindra Bank has a market capitalization of Rs2,22,560.69 crore after its shares rose 1.7%.

SBI market capitalization stood at Rs2,22,043.74 crore. Its shares were trading at Rs248.80 on BSE, down 1% from its previous close.

HDFC Bank Limited remained country’s most valuable bank with a capitalization action of Rs5.04 trillion.

India signed Loan Agreement With World Bank For USD 48 Million For Meghalaya

A Loan Agreement for IBRD loan of USD 48 million for the “Meghalaya Community - Led Landscapes Management Project (MCLLMP)” was signed with the World Bank.

The main Objective of the Project is to strengthen community-led landscapes management in selected landscapes in the State of Meghalaya.

The Project consists of three components: (i) Strengthening Knowledge and Capacity for Natural Resource Management; (ii) Community-led landscape planning and implementation and (iii) Project Management and Governance.

Suresh Prabhu launches digital platform for MSME Exporters

The Minister of Commerce & Industry Suresh Prabhu launched the ‘FIEO Global Linker’, a digital platform for MSME exporters to digitise their businesses and join a global community of growing businesses.

FIEO GlobalLinker will make the business growth of SMEs simpler, more profitable and enjoyable.

ASCI becomes member of Ayush committee

The Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) was on April 16, 2018 inducted to the Ayush Ministry's empowered committee with an objective to control misleading advertisements and exaggerated claims of its drugs.

The seven-member committee of the Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) will be empowered to review and monitor the implementation of the provisions of The Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisement) Act, 1954.

The committee will make recommendations for regulatory action against misleading advertisements and advise the Central government for issuing any specific directions.

Commonwealth summit opens in London

British Prime Minister Theresa May on April 16, 2018 opened the Commonwealth Business Forum (CBF) in London, marking the start of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

 India is among 52 other member-countries participating in the summit hosted by the UK in London around the theme of "Towards a Common Future".

United Kingdom, which is the Chair-in-Office of the Commonwealth for two years, also unveiled a range of new initiatives and networks to mark the launch of CHOGM.

E Godavari, first district with complete LED street lighting


East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh is all set to become the country’s first ‘LED street light district’.
The rural LED street lighting programme in the district entailing the installation of around 3.1 lakh LED street lights has been completed. The exercise is expected to save around 34 Million Units (MU) annually.
Support from EESL
The Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) is supporting the LED project which has been completed in five months. Naidu wanted coverage of all the 13 districts with over 28-30 lakh LED lights, which is expected to save around 333 MU of energy a year. The project is being implemented in the districts of East Godavari, Chittoor, Ananthapur, YSR Kadapa, Vizianagaram & Visakhapatnam.

Bandhan Bank joins the club of top 50 most valuable Indian companies

Kolkata-based private sector lender with an m-cap of Rs 640 billion was spotted at the 50th rank on the Bombay Stock Exchange for the first time ever since it's listing.

Bandhan Bank has overtaken Dabur India, Britannia Industries, New India Assurance Company, and Bharti Infrastructure in the trading sessions.
Bandhan Bank stock touched a new high of Rs 540, up 1.5 percent Thursday. The stock gained 44 percent over the issue price of Rs 375.
