Earth Day is observed on 22nd April


Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on April 22. Worldwide, various events are held to demonstrate support for environmental protection. First celebrated in 1970, Earth Day events in more than 193 countries are now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network.

Numerous communities celebrate Earth Week, an entire week of activities focused on the environmental issues that the world faces. In 2017, the March for Science occurred on Earth day (April 22, 2017) and was followed by the People's Climate Mobilization (April 29, 2017).

Bangalore Emerges As Top City For Office Expansion: CBRE

In India, Bangalore emerged as the most preferred city for office expansion, according to a survey by the real estate consulting firm, CBRE South Asia. 

MNCs are focusing on expanding in Bangalore and smaller cities across the country but have limited growth plans in the Delhi NCR and Mumbai according to the CBRE Asia Pacific Occupier Survey 2018.

E-SANAD Portal and National Academic Depository Integrated

The Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) launched integration of e-SANAD portal and NAD – National Academic Depository in a bid to make education system in India more transparent.

e-Sanad is a project aimed at online submission and verification of documents with the ultimate object to extend contactless, cashless, faceless and paperless document attestation service.

NAD is a 24X7 online storehouse of all academic awards viz. diplomas certificates, degrees, mark-sheets etc.

Union Minister Vijay Goel Launches Central Project Monitoring Unit For E-Vidhan Project

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Vijay Goel inaugurated the new office of Central Project Monitoring Unit for the e-Vidhan project of the Government at the Parliament House Annexe.

This was done as a part of Swachhata Pakhwada being observed by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs.  

e-Vidhan is a part of the broader Digital India Programme of the Government and is likely to contribute to the cleanliness and environment by reducing the use of papers to a great extent.

Union Cabinet Approves Promulgation Of Fugitive Economic Offenders Ordinance

The Union Cabinet approved the promulgation of the Fugitive Economic Offenders Ordinance 2018, which would empower the government to seize the domestic assets of those deemed by a relevant court to be fugitive economic offenders.

The Ordinance has a provision for a ‘Special Court’ under the Prevention of Money-laundering Act, 2002 to declare a person as a Fugitive Economic Offender.

Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated the two-day Civil Services Day event in New Delhi.

The Day focuses on the topic ‘Evolving Strategies for Transforming Aspirational Districts’. 

The Vice President also released a book 'Emulating Excellence- Takeaways for Replication'. 
The day is celebrated for the civil servants to rededicate themselves to the cause of citizen and renew their commitments to public service and excellence in work.

Commonwealth Countries Unanimously Agree To Take Action On Cybersecurity By 2020

The Commonwealth countries have unanimously agreed to take action on cybersecurity by 2020. In a landmark declaration at the end of Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in London, the leaders of 53 countries agreed to work closely to evaluate and strengthen their cybersecurity frameworks and response mechanisms.

A release issued, termed the declaration as the world's largest and most geographically diverse inter-governmental commitment on cybersecurity cooperation. It followed an announcement by the UK government pledging up to 15 million pounds to help the Commonwealth nations strengthen their cybersecurity capabilities.

16th Federation Cup Junior National Athletics Championship Begins

The 16th Federation Cup Junior National athletics championship begun in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.

Over 800 athletes from 32 states across the country will take part in this tournament.

The meet will serve as the selections trials for the 18th Asian Junior Athletic Meet to be held at Gifu, Japan, in June
.
The three-day event will see 440 boys and 352 girls in the age group of 16 to 20 years take part in 44 events.

Daniel Ricciardo won Chinese Grand Prix 2018

The 2018 Chinese Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race that took place at the Shanghai International Circuit in Shanghai, China.

Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo won the race ahead of Valtteri Bottas and Kimi Raikkonen.

The race was the third round of the 2018 FIA Formula One World Championship and marked the fifteenth time that the Chinese Grand Prix has been run as a round of the Formula One World Championship.

Yes Bank Gets RBI Nod To Open Offices In London And Singapore

Private sector lender Yes Bank received the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) approval to open two representative offices in London and Singapore.

Yes Bank opened its first representative office in Abu Dhabi in April 2015 and also launched IFSC banking unit (IBU) at GIFT City, Gandhinagar, in the same year.


Swaziland King Changes Country's Name To 'Kingdom Of ESwatini'

Swaziland’s King Mswati III, Africa’s last absolute monarch, officially changed the name of his country to the ‘Kingdom of eSwatini’.

Accordingly, the country, a member of the Commonwealth, will now be known by its historic name of eSwatini.

The announcement was made during the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the King’s 50th birthday as well as the 50th anniversary of Swazi’s independence from British colonial rule.

Meaning "place of the Swazi", eSwatini is the Swazi language name for the country.

The name Swaziland angered some citizens as it is a mix of Swazi and English.
