Sridevi named best actress, Irrfan awarded best actor at IIFA Award
Sridevi won Best Actress (posthumously) for her role in 2017 film MOM, her husband Boney Kapoor collected the prize at the Indian International Film Awards (IIFA), held in Bangkok.

Irrfan Khan won the prize for Best Actor in a leading role for Hindi Medium.

'Tumhari Sulu' was named Best Picture.

Saket Chaudhary won the best direction award for 'Hindi Medium'.

The Best Music Direction Award went to the trinity of Amaal Mallik, Tanishk Bagchi and Akhil Sachdeva for their work on Badrinath Ki Dulhania.

Anupam Kher, who has over 500 films to his credit, was honoured with the Outstanding Achievement Award at the ceremony

Haryana village 1st to pass No Toilet, No Bride resolution

Haryana's Godikan village panchayat has passed a 'No Toilet, No Bride' resolution, becoming the first panchayat in the country to do so. 

According to the resolution, girls from Godikan will not be married off in houses without a toilet.

Keralas 4th international airport to open at kannur in September

Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan announced the state's fourth international airport in Kannur will begin operations in September this year.

Following a meeting with Union Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu, the CM added that development plans for Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode airports were also discussed.

R Praggnanandhaa has become the second youngest Grandmaster in chess history

Soon after Chennai's R Praggnanandhaa completed his third norm - beating Italian Grandmaster Luca Moroni in the eighth round of the Gredine Open at Ortisei in Italy, he has become the second youngest Grandmaster in chess history at the age of 12 years, 10 months, 13 days.

The youngest Grandmaster ever is Russia's Sergey Karjakin, who achieved the feat aged 12 years, 7 months and has held the record since 2002.

Apart from World Champion, Grandmaster is the highest title a chess player can attain.

Deepika Kumari wins individual recurve gold at Salt Lake World Cup

Archer Deepika Kumari won her first individual gold medal in six years at the Salt Lake World Cup following a 7-3 win over Germany’s Michelle Kroppen in the recurve final.

Abhishek Verma had won an individual silver in the Compound category and was part of the mixed team bronze winning side alongside  Jyothi Surekha Vennam. 

Sandeep Sejwal grabs gold at Singapore National Swimming Championships

Indian swimmer Sandeep Sejwal clinched the gold medal in men's 50m breaststroke event at the Singapore National Swimming Championships held in Singapore.

Virdhawal Khade grabbed a creditable silver medal in the 50m freestyle event with a timing of 22.68 seconds even as compatriot Aaron Agnel Dsouza crashed out in the semifinals.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan re elected as the Turkish President

Recep Tayyip Erdogan had won a 52.54% share of the national vote and re-elected as the Turkish President, extending his 15-year grip on power.

Erdogan has won several consecutive elections to become Turkey's longest-serving leader.

Saudi Arabia becomes last country in the World to allow women to drive

Women in Saudi Arabia have been legally allowed to drive for the first time in the history of one of the most conservative countries.

On June 4, Saudi Arabia issued the first driving license to women, as Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saudofficially announced in September 2017 to allow women to drive.

Driving schools for women have been set up in five cities in the kingdom.
