Gujarat Govt launches solar scheme, Suryashakti Kisan Yojna
This pilot project, estimated to cost Rs 870 crore, will cover 12,400 cultivators and will be launched from July 2.

Under Suryashakti Kisan Yojna (SKY), grid-connected solar panels will be provided to over 12,000 cultivators who have already taken regular electricity connections for irrigation purpose.

This is a revolutionary step after Jyoti Gram Yojna that brought 24 x 7 electricity in the villages.

Pallavi Durua crowned as first Tribal Queen in India

Pallavi Durua, who belongs to Odisha's Koraput district, was crowned as the first "Tribal Queen" at the Adi Rani Kalinga Tribal Queen competition held at Utkal Mandap.

The prime objective of the event was to promote tribal art and culture.

Ban on plastics in Maharashtra, an extreme measure

Recently, India hosted the World Environment Day on June 5, 2018. The theme was ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’. 

On that occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a high-profile pledge that India would do away with all the single-use plastics by 2022.

The ban on plastics Maharashtra, after 3 months of notice, is an extreme measure as it supports the goal.

ADNOC joins Saudi Aramco to build Ratnagiri Refinery

Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Saudi Aramco have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly develop and build an integrated refinery and petrochemicals complex at Ratnagiri in Maharashtra.

Saudi Aramco and ADNOC will together hold 50 per cent stake.

State owned refiners IOCL, HPCL & BPCL will have 50 per cent stake in the Ratnagiri Refinery.

Ministry of Women and Child Development to organise POSHAN Abhiyaan TECH-THON

The Union Ministry of Women and Child Development on June 25, 2018 announced to organise a day-long Seminar on Technology Partnerships ‘TECH-THON’ for steering POSHAN Abhiyaan on June 28, 2018 at Pravasi Bharatiya Kendra in New Delhi.

POSHAN Abhiyaan, also known as National Nutrition Mission, was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 8, 2018 in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan. The POSHAN Abhiyaan empowers the frontline functionaries such as the Anganwadi Workers and Lady Supervisors by providing them with Smartphones. 

Ministry of Women and Child Development launches report on ‘Women in Prisons’
Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Maneka Sanjay Gandhi on June 25, 2018 launched the report titled ‘Women in Prisons’.

The report throws light on the condition of women in prisons and their entitlements; issues faced by them and possible methods for resolution of the same. The report contains a comprehensive list of 134 recommendations for improving the lives of women under incarceration, addresses a wide range of issues pertaining to pregnancy and childbirth in prison, their mental health, legal aid and reintegration in society. 

Kalki Koechlin will be conferred with French honour

For contribution in enhancing Indo-French ties in cinema, Actor Kalki Koechlin will be conferred with the French distinction of Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters (Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres).

The award will be presented by the Ambassador of France to India, Alexandre Ziegler, who will be undertaking a two-day trip in Mumbai on June 22-23 to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the sustainable urban mobility, cultural, academic and corporate sectors between France and India.


FICCI awarded at X International IT Forum, Russia

Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) received an award during the event, for its support and active participation at the forum, consecutively for two years.

The prime objective of the X International IT Forum was to leverage on the unique strengths of the Indian IT industry potential and Russia's innovative products.

More than 1,500 participants from 55 countries participated in the forum, which has established itself as an international venue for discussion of key issues in development and implementation of digital economy in the region.

China launches spy bird drone to boost Government surveillance

China has launched bird-shaped drones fitted with a camera, GPS antenna, and satellite communication capability, to monitor citizens living in different parts of the country.

The program reportedly code named "Dove", is run by Song Bifeng, a professor at Northwestern Polytechnical University.

London is the most desirable city in the world for overseas workers

According to a survey conducted by the Boston Consulting Group and totaljobs.com. London beat New York, Berlin and Barcelona to take the top spot as  the most desirable city in the world for overseas workers.

Meanwhile, the UK overall has dropped three places in the country rankings, falling from second in 2014 to fifth.
